“Where flowers bloom so does hope” – Lady Bird Johnson

About us
Hope Nursery is a small, independent, family run nursery in Betchworth, Surrey. We are passionate about growing sustainably and taking care of our environment and the wildlife around us. We grow mostly herbaceous perennials and a good selection of wildflowers. In summer the nursery is a wash of colour and alive with insects, birds and butterflies. The location is fabulous as we are surrounded by fields and the North Downs. Come and visit us in Spring/Summer. Sit and enjoy the peace and quiet and have a wander around our little piece of heaven.
Nursery Open Days
Due to the nature of our lease we are only open to the public for a restricted number of days in the year. We are situated on a working farm with heavy machinery being used regularly at certain times of the year. A small selection of our plants are available at Betchworth Post Office and Village Shop all year round.
Open Days 2026
April – Saturday 11th, 18th & 25th 10am-4pm
Spring/Summer at the nursery
With just a week to go before opening the nursery, I have been potting on seedlings like mad and tidying up the nursery. I’ve sewn more seed too including some annual wildflower mixes and calendular ‘Art Shades’. Here are a few photos taken this week.

Borage Seedlings

Two year old tea roses planted as bareroots this winter. I have Double Delight, Pascali, Ingrid Bergman, Bicoletta, Dame de Coeur, Peaudouce, Eternal and Peace.

I have been busy sewing seed, potting on seedlings and repotting maturer stock. I have a good selection of wildflowers for this season and some beautiful herbaceous perennials. In the photos below are a few examples of this years stock.

We also have Digitalis Purpurea Albiflora, Agastache Blue Boa, Lychnis Coronaria Alba, Echinacea Pallida, Echinacea White Swan, Anemone Sylvestris and lots more.
What’s going on at the nursery
In the autumn I sewed some of my wildflower seeds. Chicory, corncockle, fox and cubs, ragged robin, red and white campion, purple toadflax. These will be available at the nursery this spring alongside my existing wildflowers in 9cm and 1L pots. I have wild valerian, oxeye daisy, ragged robin and more. I will be sewing more this spring including borage, wild cornflowers and hesperis.

Chicory sewn last autumn from seed to seedling to plant.

Corncockle grown from my autumn sewing.
Wildflowers
We love wildflowers at Hope Nursery and stock a good selection.

Oxeye Daisies in our stock beds

This is a great mullein (verbascum). Quite a spectacular plant reaching up to 2m in height. This is a biennial which means it will flower in it’s second year.
